A backpacker in Arizona grew to become terrified when she came facial area to face with a mountain lion that perched on a tree around her campsite and refused to go away.
Tiffany Foster was on the fourth day of a 5-working day solo backpacking vacation in Saguaro Nationwide Park and experienced just witnessed a herd of deer stampeding up out of the canyon wherever she was tenting.
“After most likely a few to five minutes, I turned around and there was a enormous cat clinging to a tree about 10 feet from me,” Foster described on her Semi Feral Hiker YouTube online video. “It was perched about 2-3 feet off the floor on the trunk of a tree.”
Foster slowly backed absent a couple of toes and fetched her bear spray and pocketed her Garmin inReach satellite messenger. She then started buying up rocks and tossing them at the cougar, along with yelling at it.
It would not budge. She turned on her Iphone and started videotaping.
“I wasn’t in a position to movie what finally got it out of the tree,” she wrote in the video clip. “A flock of scrub jays arrived to my rescue. They dive-bombed him and aggravated him.”
However you can’t see the birds, you can listen to them in the background.
“Finally, a wonderful flock of scub jays flew over and started to mob the cat,” Foster wrote in her description. “After a few pecks from the birds, he obtained down out of the tree.”
She imagined it still left, but it came back again momentarily to test out a bag of her soiled clothing. It is presumed she was equipped to scare it absent with rocks or her yelling, as it ultimately still left the campsite. But Foster was not experience at simplicity.
“That is in all probability the scariest [thing] that is ever happened to me my total existence,” Foster stated in the online video. “Y’all I’m terrified. This is no joke. I experienced a cougar in my camp. And that jerk sat in the tree over my bear box and didn’t want to go away. I threw rocks, I yelled. I truly feel fairly ill to my belly right now. Of class, each individual noise is a…cougar.”

Throughout the ordeal, Foster had texted her husband and the Countrywide Park Company.
“Right soon after he remaining, I started out having responses to my frantic inReach texts,” she wrote in her description. “The Countrywide Park Staff reported I need to depart quickly. I didn’t have to have to be advised 2 times either!”
In four hrs, she hiked 10 miles in the darkish and bought out of the park.
“I was told afterwards that this was THE most alarming human/cougar face documented in the Rincons given that the 1890s,” Foster wrote.
The National Park Company closed the area as a result of Sunday thanks to mountain lion action, warning hikers to prevent Grass Shack Campground alongside the Arizona Countrywide Scenic Path, Tucson.com documented.
